Mother Hunger®
What is Mother Hunger®?
Psychotherapist and author Kelly McDaniel has worked with women who struggle with feelings of low self-worth, issues with disordered eating, and addictive or toxic relationships for years. Women with these issues may find themselves feeling trapped in cycles of harmful behaviors and relationships.
Mother Hunger® describes the particular grief many women experience that has nothing to do with death but rather a longing for the love of a mother, even if theirs was still alive. Human beings need connection with other safe human beings in order to survive and we crave belonging in order to believe in our innate self worth.
Many of us find ourselves stuck in unhealthy habits simply because we don’t see a better way. Working through our Mother Hunger®, we can break the cycle of often destructive behavior and find new ways to provide the nurturing, protection, and guidance that was lacking in our childhood.
Recognizing Mother Hunger® as an attachment injury allows for the destigmatization and shame that often comes with being under-mothered and misdiagnosed.
The constant search for mother love can be a lifelong emotional burden, but healing begins with knowing and naming what we are missing. McDaniel is the first clinician to identify and name Mother Hunger®, which demystifies the search for love and provides the compass that each woman needs to end the struggle with achy, lonely emptiness, and come home to herself.

Dear Brave Little Girl,
Hi, it’s me, just another brave little girl that has stepped into her power, found my authentic voice, and learned that I no longer have to stay small. If you identify with Mother Hunger®, an attachment injury named by author Kelly McDaniel, you will find comfort, support, and healing here.
If you have ever yearned for your mother to show you through words and actions that she loves you, that you are important, that you matter to her and this world, and that you are worthy of genuine love and joy without conditions, this healing opportunity is for you.
I’m honored to offer multiple avenues to work with me in order to heal this attachment injury that has most likely caused pain in your relationship with yourself and in your relationships with others.
I offer individual one on one sessions, a virtual online group with other women healing from this same attachment injury, as well as a Mother Hunger® Immersive Retreat experience which is a 4 day, 3 night deep dive into the hurt you feel and the healing you so deserve.
We are wounded in relationship and we must heal in relationships with others.
Kelly’s ability to name the attachment injury of Mother Hunger® has made a profound shift in how people heal. Often women explain how understanding this attachment injury has been the missing puzzle piece in their healing.
